25 years of experience in the constant change of advertising and marketing — and of evolving alongside it.
AD & UI/UX Designer, Oulu. Looking for a permanent role — on-site in Oulu, or remote/hybrid anywhere in Finland. Available immediately.
Brand identities, campaign concepts, typography, visual storytelling.
User interfaces, user journeys, wireframes, prototypes.
The agility, budget awareness and project management that come from running a business.
Futudent’s cutting-edge miniature cameras and software let dentists document and share their own point of view as video recordings and still images.
Over 6 years of collaboration, covering almost everything from sales and marketing materials to global campaigns.
RESULT
I designed, produced and maintained Futudent’s worldwide social media campaigns and routed the leads they generated to the company’s dealer network. In North America alone — their primary market — the campaigns produced over a thousand hot leads.
Olo is Oulu’s longest-running women’s fitness centre, known until the end of 2021 as Beauty Center.
CHALLENGE
Letting go of a well-established name meant rebuilding recognition from the ground up — and, at the same time, an opportunity to speak to a wider audience than before.
SOLUTION
I created a modern corporate identity for Olo that speaks to women of all ages. The identity was carried through the fitness centre’s premises, and the relaunch was announced with the opening of Olo.fi. The site presents the services clearly, and memberships and add-on services are bought directly from the online store.
RESULT
”Changing our company name and renewing our brand went effortlessly thanks to Tuomo’s professional service. The new visual identity is modern, fresh and authentically our own. We’re extremely happy with the result, and our customers have embraced the new look enthusiastically.”
– Saila Törmikoski / Olo
Appiukko Oy is an Oulu-based software house specialising in the development of mobile applications and services, helping its clients bring their app ideas to life.
ROLE
Part of Appiukko’s subcontracting team.
Over the course of our collaboration I produced 28 mobile app concept plans and interactive prototypes. The volume demanded an efficient way of working: from idea to a clickable prototype that holds up to client review and serves as a foundation for further development. For the two apps that went into production, I also handled the user interface design.
AI is currently the fastest-moving area of this field, and I work with it every day.
I built and trained an AI assistant for Futudent on the Voiceflow platform. Among other things, the assistant can guide a dentist to the Futudent camera that suits their own way of working, help troubleshoot product issues, and find the nearest Futudent dealer. The assistant was built to be implemented on the company’s website and in its software.
WEB APPLICATIONS
I build working web applications with Claude Code. My most recent project was a sign-up app for a potluck-style event: guests pick one dish to bring from a list, and can optionally request an email confirmation and add the event to their calendar.
In practice this means I can take an idea from plan to working prototype without a separate development team.
AS PART OF DAILY WORK
I use AI in concepting, content work and automating routines — it shows up directly in how much I’m able to produce.
I’ve also done work worth mentioning for the following companies, among others.
I’m a 45-year-old advertising and marketing designer from Oulu with over 25 years of experience. After seven years of running my own business, I’m ready for new challenges and genuinely looking forward to them.
Throughout my career I’ve pushed to broaden my skills and learn new tools and ways of working. I got my first job, at Avalon, because I knew Macromedia Flash — today hardly anyone remembers what that even was. For me too it’s just one of many tools that couldn’t keep up with the pace of technology. I don’t intend to make that mistake myself.
Although I originally set out to be a web and UI designer, my curiosity pulled me toward brand design as well, and with it I had to master the world of print. That breadth has kept the work varied, and it’s what keeps it interesting to this day.
My recently concluded years as an entrepreneur taught me to understand the business itself on a deeper level — project management, scheduling and budgeting. I’m happy to keep doing that as part of a designer’s role.
My goal now is to join a team where I can put the full range of my skills to use.
